Heat Pumps, Ground and Air Source Types
Ground source heat pumps extract heat from the ground all year round for the hot water supply. With an average UK ground temperature of 12 o C the Coefficient of Performance (COP) rating for every kilowatt spent the return is between 1->3 kW and 1->5 kilowatts depending upon the source temperature. The main component of these types of heat pump is the evaporator filled with Freon gas (R22). R22 boils at a very low temperature hence very low running costs. Fossil fuels cannot compare therefore this system to heat swimming pools, air source or ground source heat pumps to heat domestic hot water is the cheapest and cleanest way forward. |
